Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide derived from a fragment of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH 4 to 10), with an added sequence of proline, glycine, and proline attached to slow enzymatic degradation and extend stability relative to the parent fragment. It originated from research conducted in the former Soviet Union and continues to appear across a body of published literature examining neuroprotection, cognitive processes, and neuroplasticity in cellular and animal model systems.
